The pitch: Gears 5 is the most technically accomplished game in the franchise and the least ambitious. If you've never touched a Gears game, this is genuinely the best entry point, it plays faster and cleaner than anything before it, and it functions as a highlight reel of the franchise's 20-year run. If you've played the others, you already own most of this game. What's new: Kait Diaz as the sole protagonist (a...
The game is just playable for graphics and adventure. It was boring at first for its repetitive gameplay from Gears 4 like juvies, swarms attacks, and there wasn't a single storyline I could follow properly. But thankfully, the good graphics and adventure in icy worlds and a Martian desert environment make the game playable. my rating 2.75/5
Gears 5 suffers from the same things other games of the time do: Excessive monetization, FOMO, hero abilities, an open-world experience, and a story that felt so forced because... that's what it was; forced, to get another game out of the franchise, with no consideration if any of these features are healthy for Gears of War or video games at large.

The lowest price on record is $4.49, set in July 2026. It has been discounted 43 times in the 7 years tracked here, typically at 66 percent off, with about 7 weeks between sales. Today's $4.49 at 85 percent off matches that floor. It does not get cheaper than this.
Steam's global achievement data says about under 1 percent of players ever finish it. On an 11.3-hour game, that is a lot of paid-for hours most people never see. Budget past the sticker: it carries the aggressive kind of in-app purchases, and the score already docks it for that.
