The value story
The lowest price on record is $0.49, set in December 2015. It has been discounted 93 times in the 13 years tracked here, typically at 50 percent off, with about 5 weeks between sales.
Against its own genre it lands in the top 10 percent on value. It is better reviewed than 77 percent of its genre. The games it most resembles do better on the same math. Blazing Chrome ($16.99, scores 55) and Odallus: The Dark Call ($9.99, scores 64) both outscore it.
Inside the two-hour refund window, 70 percent of the 254 reviews written there were positive, against 79 percent overall, and those are 39 percent of everything written about it.

What players say
Nice pixel art in the cutscenes, the music ain't bad either but overall the actual game itself isn't anything that approaches the best action plats on the NES. Don't expect anything near Ninja Gaiden for instance. But if you really love the NES aesthetic and want to try a game that feels like an NES game of that era that's pretty short, well, I'm sure you haven't played all the NES games that fit under that umbrella...
Frustrating in some parts but I did enjoy it. Definitely feels like an old game. Great deal if you get it on sale.
Oniken is a fun side-scroller inspired by old pixelated games like Ninja Gaiden and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, following the same level of difficulty and challenge while being accompanied by a nice soundtrack. Unfortunately, the game has far too many inexcusable technical limitations and bugs to be truly recommendable.
