This was an excellent sequel that cleverly reused the bones of the original map and player's knowledge to add new depth to the world while still feeling fresh. The new spell additions were good for more flavor and adding extra methods of exploration. The new playable races are also fun even if some of the world's reactions to you are relatively minor. I especially loved how the impact of the Empire's war on Avernum...

Been a long time coming, those games are simply perfect at being sprawling adventures in grim conditions, some jank included. The way you revisit the map with the empire invasion is really neat, and a lot of nods to the previous game will make you smile. The many secrets and dungeons are rarely a let down, and honestly I don't really know how to describe it, it's an experience you live if you can handle oldschool...
