Coming from VIII, X, and XI all on ps2, XIII feels like a mix of familiar ground and new experiments. Compared to VIII: VIII gave me that freedom to live as an officer, build bonds, and climb the ranks. XIII brings that back, but with a bigger map and more cinematic presentation. It's romance of the three kingdoms, game as old as time, and a story even older. This one does the officer thing pretty well, I had fun with it. Controling entire provinces isn't as smooth as it is in some other titles but I heard they go sorta between high strategy and officer level strategy games. I got my money's worth with ROTK13, I bought it on other systems too, sorta wish it shared saves with the playstation...
