What drives the score
How to read this
Every input gets a grade, S to D, read from the buyer's side. The score is multiplicative, so an input only counts as raising when it sits near the top of its own scale. Anything with real room left is holding the score back, because that room is the gap to 100. ▲ marks a lift, ▼ a drag or a dock, ? an input we do not have, • a fact this genre's score does not use. The exact weights stay secret.
The value story
November 2023 is where it bottomed out, at $2.99. 64 discounts in the 10 years on record. They run about 75 percent off, roughly 6 weeks apart. Today it is at full price. The last sale was about 13 weeks ago, and on this game's rhythm the next one tends to arrive within 6 weeks. Past sales have already crossed the $12.34 BANGER line 43 times.
On value it sits in the top 13 percent of its genre. It is pricier than 88 percent of its genre, and better reviewed than 86 percent. Among the games that feel like it, System Shock ($11.99, scores 83) beats it on value, while it beats Skin Deep ($19.99, scores 56).
Steam's global achievement data says about 11 percent of players ever finish it. On a 16.4-hour game, that is a lot of paid-for hours most people never see. 6 of the 800 Steam-purchase reviews sampled here come from buyers who refunded the game, sampled from reviews written December 2024 to September 2026. That is fewer refunded reviewers than 7 in 10 paid games this site has sampled to the same depth, and among the 725 games in its genre sampled this deeply, 593 have a larger share. Inside the two-hour refund window, 54 percent of the 1,829 reviews written there were positive, against 91 percent overall, and those are 5 percent of everything written about it.
The main story runs 16.4 hours. Doing everything runs 47, 2.8 times as long.

What players say
Absolutely phenomenal game. When I play a game, I want to play something immersive and this is it. Graphics, gameplay, story… all top notch.
I don't understand why it took me soo long to play this game. It was all I could think off whilst I was playing it. really really good!
Prey and Agnostic System Design Immersive Sims rule, and I think a huge part of what makes them special comes from a design philosophy I call Agnostic System Design . Instead of explicitly designing how two specific objects interact, you design their properties and let those properties overlap. Prey is full of this. With Mimic Matter, you can turn into a coffee mug and squeeze through a tiny gap. The gap doesn't...

Prey scores 70/100 on the BANG Score (worth it). The BANG Score rates what a game is worth for the money. Via Steam BANGERS. https://steambangers.com/game/480490/preyThe BANG Score is one number for value, 0 to 100: price against how it reviews and how long it was built to be. It answers the money question and stops there; whether the game is for you is still your call.
Reviews set the ceiling and price moves you inside it, so a cheap game that reviews badly cannot climb. Ratings from few reviewers are shrunk toward the middle, so 100 percent from nine people does not outrank 96 percent from ninety thousand. Length comes from HowLongToBeat where it can be matched, measured against a per-genre floor so a five-hour narrative game is judged against other narrative games rather than against a sixty-hour RPG. Where no verified length exists the score says so and carries a dock, because the biggest input is then a guess. The full method, including where it is weak → Steam reviews as of Sep 14, price as of Sep 24.
