The value story
It has never been cheaper than $4.49. That was June 2018. Its cuts run 50 percent off as a rule. There have been 53 in the 9 years tracked, about 7 weeks apart. The math puts its BANGER price at $5.72. The record reaches that level 25 times.
On value it sits in the top 3 percent of its genre. It is pricier than 66 percent of its genre, and better reviewed than 98 percent. It outscores the games it most resembles, including Broken Sword 5 - the Serpent's Curse ($24.99, scores 60) and Heaven's Vault ($24.99, scores 58).
Steam's global achievement data puts about 5 percent of players at this game's ending achievement. On a 4.7-hour game, the hours short of it still count in its price per hour. None of the 329 Steam-purchase reviews sampled here come from buyers who refunded the game, sampled from reviews written March 2020 to August 2026.
4.7 hours to finish it, 48 to exhaust it. The completionist tail is 10 times the campaign.
The drop-off
41% start to 5% finishSteam counts fewer than one in ten of its players at the ending achievement. On a 4.7-hour game, that's a lot you pay for and may never use. Steam global achievements

PLEASE PLEASE AND PLEASE PLAY THIS OTOME VISUAL NOVEL. I can say with my full chest that Hakuoki is one of the best written otome visual novel that I have ever played. I dived into this series just to reminisce the high school-me watching the anime series, and I was a bit curious why this series is so popular in otome community despite being an almost 2 decades old otome game. I said the same thing in my review in...
First of all, this is a sequel, so play a route in Kyoto Winds before picking this up. I have only played the continuation of Hijikata's route in this game, but I was glued to it for hours. The romance of these two games is definitely a slow burn, but feels pretty realistic. I think it's well worth the time to see the pay off. Plus, the non-romantic plot and themes are pretty engaging, too.
This is part two of the game, Kyoto is part one. For anyone confused it's because this was ported to PC from PSVita. I always will love Hakuoki as it being the first otome game I got into when it released NA for PSP. I still own the box set I got. Now, this game has issues, and a lot of them are tech related because of it being ported over and them not caring that much about fixing those issues. Black screens, game...
