What drives the score

How to read this

Every input gets a grade, S to D, read from the buyer's side. The score is multiplicative, so an input only counts as raising when it sits near the top of its own scale. Anything with real room left is holding the score back, because that room is the gap to 100. ▲ marks a lift, ▼ a drag or a dock, ? an input we do not have, • a fact this genre's score does not use. The exact weights stay secret.

The value story

It has never been cheaper than $5.99. That was October 2025. Its cuts run 50 percent off as a rule. There have been 53 in the 6 years tracked, about 5 weeks apart. Today it is at full price. The last sale was about 4 weeks ago, and on this game's rhythm the next one tends to arrive within 5 weeks. It becomes a BANGER at $14.09, a level the record has reached 52 times.

Against its own genre it lands in the top 1 percent on value. It is pricier than 92 percent of its genre, and better reviewed than 99 percent. The nearest things to it, Viewfinder ($7.49, scores 78) and The Stanley Parable ($14.99, scores 62), are both worse buys on this math.

Steam's global achievement data puts 50 percent of players at this game's ending achievement. The median game this site can measure sits at 8. 14 of the 800 Steam-purchase reviews sampled here come from buyers who refunded the game, sampled from reviews written August 2023 to September 2026. That is fewer refunded reviewers than 7 in 10 paid games this site has sampled to the same depth, and among the 3,221 games in its genre sampled this deeply, 2,690 have a larger share. Inside the two-hour refund window, 85 percent of the 3,011 reviews written there were positive, against 95 percent overall, and those are 11 percent of everything written about it.

The main story runs 2.6 hours. Doing everything runs 10, 4.0 times as long.

Valve rates it Steam Deck Verified, and at 2.6 hours it is short enough to finish on one.

What players say

Not for me. I get why a lot of people love this game. It's well made and the perspective scaling can be a lot of fun. I just expected a competent puzzle game and that's not what I got. Every challenge boils down to, make big, make small, and/or find the right angle, which I don't find fun. I went in with the expectation of this being a puzzle game that uses perspective mechanics. What I got was a tech demo...

Superliminal takes the best parts from Antichamber and Portal and uses them to make a game that's much worse than either of them. I don't think it's fair to call Superliminal bad. I will, however, call it derivative, unsatisfying, and a bit pretentious. I'd been looking forward to playing this game since I saw the initial tech demo videos in 2014. Well, 12 years later, I finally got around to it, only to discover...

Awesome puzzle game Short and pretty easy to 100% Still don't understand how the devs made this game happen Reminded me of The Stanley Parable 9/10

The BANG Score is one number for value, 0 to 100: price against how it reviews and how long it was built to be. It answers the money question and stops there; whether the game is for you is still your call.

Reviews set the ceiling and price moves you inside it, so a cheap game that reviews badly cannot climb. Ratings from few reviewers are shrunk toward the middle, so 100 percent from nine people does not outrank 96 percent from ninety thousand. Length comes from HowLongToBeat where it can be matched, measured against a per-genre floor so a five-hour narrative game is judged against other narrative games rather than against a sixty-hour RPG. Where no verified length exists the score says so and carries a dock, because the biggest input is then a guess. The full method, including where it is weak → Steam reviews as of Sep 15, price as of Sep 24.

A number here look wrong? Tell me what it got wrong and I will look at the inputs behind it.
