The value story

It has been discounted 35 times in the 3 years tracked here. The median cut across all of them is 65 percent, about 5 weeks apart. Today's $2.99 at 85 percent off matches the lowest price in the record.

It is pricier than 90 percent of its genre, and less well reviewed than 96 percent. On the same math Ultimate Custom Night (free, scores 90) and Welcome to the Game II ($9.99, scores 58) are the better buys, and they are the games it most resembles.

More about Creature Lab

This site sampled 340 of its Steam-purchase reviews; 11 were written by buyers who refunded it, sampled from reviews written June 2023 to August 2026. That is more refunded reviewers than 9 in 10 paid games this site has sampled to the same depth, and among the 2,597 games in its genre sampled this deeply, 114 have a larger share. The typical game sits near 5 in 1,000, so the score docks it. Inside the two-hour refund window, 37 percent of the 138 reviews written there were positive, against 55 percent overall, and those are 41 percent of everything written about it.

What players say

The good-positive thing about the game it is that it does have a complex tutorial (even if bugged: encountered the bug that i can't interact with items highlighted & had to start over bcs i could not progress), otherwise is just numbers & stats, after you put a lot of effort to create potions & upgrade/change the mutant. Same as many others mentioned as well, sadly is meaningless... maybe it will be improved with...

This feels like being thrown into the deep end at a job where you've had virtually zero training or guidance from the start - something I know very well from first-hand experience! The gameplay mechanics are also far too tedious and complicated, which makes the whole experience unnecessarily frustrating. I also think there should be **animated battle sequences** rather than relying entirely on text-based combat...

Despite a complex tutorial that makes Creature Lab look like a deep science-puzzle game, the complexity ultimately feels completely meaningless. You can beat the entire campaign by mixing practically anything at random, proving that the intricate systems lack any real depth and just mask a long chain of chores. To make matters worse, mutant combat isn't even real gameplay-it's just text and numbers ticking on a...
