This is the best game I've played since BG3, which isn't to say it's comparable; that's just my personal taste. I started off as a crappy mage wondering why I did more damage with a dagger than my spell, running for my life most of the time. Now in NG+ I'm zooming around in a Jester's outfit with a hat on that looks like a demon got stuck in a beehive, flinging fireballs left and right and melting everything. At my...
Strong start, but the writing and gameplay both fall off a cliff during act 2. Combat becomes a chore, lots of unresolved plot threads in sidequests and just generally sloppy writing. Plus there is either undisclosed AI art in act 2, or if not someone really trying their hardest to mimic weird AI artifacts (wrong number of fingers, fingers blending together, etc).
The main story of this game feels like a mystery which you have to unravel, giving you bits and pieces and some of the side content revealing more of it. This made me feel like a detective trying to find out what it is i am doing and how will my actions affect the world and that was awesome. There is plenty of side content ranging from amazing to "go to dungeon, defeat boss, get item" but never in a way that breaks...
