I played this game a second time before the release of the DLC, and it was as fun the second time as it was the first. I played with a different combination of Alters and chose another upgrade path in the research tree to optimize my resource gathering. The idea for this game is something I haven't seen before. The level design is fun and challenging, and I like that the Alters have interactions with each other too...
I really wanted to like **The Alters**, and after putting just over **29 hours** into it, I gave it every opportunity to win me over. The survival mechanics are engaging, the base management is interesting, and the game does a great job creating a constant sense of urgency. There are real challenges to overcome, and at first that kept me invested. Unfortunately, the game's biggest feature-managing your alternate...
Such an ambitious project, a 3rd person action adventure coupled with a light resource management base builder, wrapped around an intriguing story and world. So many choices and paths accounted for to give you a lot of freedom to choose (and screw up) in so many ways, but not as brutal as Frostpunk. Maybe a little clunky in some parts due to its ambition, but well worth a play.
