Boltgun is simultaneously a fun game on its own terms, and a little bit disappointing as a fan of the original Doom. Essentially this is Doom 2016 with a graphical gimmick. There's nothing wrong with that - Doom 2016 was a great game - but what I want from a retro-shooter is for it to use all that processing power it's saving for other things. This Bolter is precise and robust! Game: "Only those shall understand the Truth who'll rise from a dust by the Omnissiah's Will!" Me: "Nah, bro, I've got enough experience, I don't need an Easy difficulty! Lets start it on Hard!" Game: "The ignorance shall be purged, one shall know the obedience!" ***a couple hours later...*** Me (struggling in Act 2): "Can I have a Difficulty change back to Normal please?" Game...
this game just baits you with doom 64 aesthestic of boomer shooters, but inside its a boredom fest full of disgusting level designs, frustrating difficulty even on normal!!!!, 90% of the guns you get being useless (just speedrun it with bolter). not to mention the game is way too long.
