The value story

June 2025 is where it bottomed out, at $9.99. Its cuts run 20 percent off as a rule. There have been 11 in the 3 years tracked, about 12 weeks apart. Today it is at full price, and its last discount ended about 27 weeks ago.

Against its own genre it lands in the top 16 percent on value. It is pricier than 66 percent of its genre, and better reviewed than 80 percent. Among the games that feel like it, METAL GEAR SOLID 3: Snake Eater - Master Collection Version ($19.99, scores 74) beats it on value, while it beats METAL GEAR SOLID - Master Collection Version ($19.99, scores 53).

Steam's global achievement data puts about 6 percent of players at this game's ending achievement. On a 13.2-hour game, the hours short of it still count in its price per hour. This site sampled 499 of its Steam-purchase reviews; 11 were written by buyers who refunded it, sampled from reviews written February 2024 to August 2026. Inside the two-hour refund window, 56 percent of the 318 reviews written there were positive, against 90 percent overall, and those are 9 percent of everything written about it.

Finishing takes 13.2 hours; clearing it takes 29, which is 2.2 times the campaign.

At 13.2 hours it is a handheld-sized game, and Valve rates it Deck Verified.

What players say

A brilliant sequel. Sure, Raiden catches a lot of hate, but his chapter really isn't that bad once you get past the initial shock. The core gameplay refines stealth mechanics with first-person aiming, body dragging, and slick new gadgets, while the boss fights and area designs feel more polished. Story-wise, it's a classic Kojima mind-trip packed with an absurd number of twists. This PC port runs great, with only a...

I play on Steam Deck and a Windows PC with Steam Cloud saves enabled and something happened between sessions the other day that caused my save file to get corrupted. Unfortunately there was not a way to...
