The value story
June 2025 is where it bottomed out, at $9.99. 11 discounts in the 3 years on record. They run about 20 percent off, roughly 12 weeks apart. Today it is at full price, and its last discount ended about 27 weeks ago.
On value it sits in the top 12 percent of its genre. It is pricier than 66 percent of its genre, and better reviewed than 79 percent. Among the games that feel like it, Tomb Raider Game of the Year ($19.99, scores 79) beats it on value, while it beats METAL GEAR SOLID 2: Sons of Liberty - Master Collection Version ($19.99, scores 69).
Steam's global achievement data puts 40 percent of players at this game's ending achievement. The median game this site can measure sits at 15. This site sampled 800 of its Steam-purchase reviews; 51 were written by buyers who refunded it, sampled from reviews written October 2023 to August 2026. That is more refunded reviewers than 8 in 10 paid games this site has sampled to the same depth, and among the 1,071 games in its genre sampled this deeply, 153 have a larger share. Inside the two-hour refund window, 54 percent of the 730 reviews written there were positive, against 90 percent overall, and those are 14 percent of everything written about it.
Valve rates it Steam Deck Verified, so it runs on the handheld without fiddling.

It's great, another certified Kojima story with good gameplay. First Metal Gear game to actually offer stealth gameplay and not puzzle box map design. Feels great to play, memorable characters, great boss fights, less convoluted story. Recommend.
