Evoland by Shiro Games is a cleverly designed action-adventure RPG that builds its entire identity around the evolution of video game design itself, turning what could have been a simple nostalgic tribute into something far more interactive and self-aware. Rather than following a traditional progression system where players unlock stronger abilities or gear, the game instead ties advancement to the very fundamentals...
This is arguably one of the worst game I've played in the past years. As others have said, the concept is interesting but the execution is aweful. This is supposed to be a tribute to old console games (typically like Zelda) that weren't "perfect" so there are features that seem unfair/unbalanced/annoying in some aspects compared to recent games (not much savepoint, running around a lot, poor loot, uneven drops etc)...
