What drives the score
How to read this
Every input gets a grade, S to D, read from the buyer's side. The score is multiplicative, so an input only counts as raising when it sits near the top of its own scale. Anything with real room left is holding the score back, because that room is the gap to 100. ▲ marks a lift, ▼ a drag or a dock, ? an input we do not have, • a fact this genre's score does not use. The exact weights stay secret.
The value story
June 2017 is where it bottomed out, at $5.99. Its cuts run 80 percent off as a rule. There have been 78 in the 13 years tracked, about 7 weeks apart. Today it is at full price. The last sale was about 12 weeks ago, and on this game's rhythm the next one tends to arrive within 7 weeks.
Against its own genre it lands in the top 11 percent on value. It is pricier than 98 percent of its genre, and better reviewed than 82 percent. Among the games that feel like it, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 ($39.99, scores 55) beats it on value, while it beats Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate HD ($14.99, scores 43).
5 of the 800 Steam-purchase reviews sampled here come from buyers who refunded the game, sampled from reviews written September 2022 to September 2026. Inside the two-hour refund window, 53 percent of the 887 reviews written there were positive, against 81 percent overall, and those are 11 percent of everything written about it.
The main story runs 18.9 hours. Doing everything runs 46, 2.4 times as long.
It carries Valve's Deck Verified rating, which is the one that means it just works.

What players say
Lords of Shadows is a pretty mediocre God of War clone. It does not have any of the classic Castlevania gameplay structures nor is anything about it particularly Castlevania at all. The DLC makes a painful attempt to tie it into Castlevania in a way that makes it feel like the main game was a completely separate game that they just stuck the franchise name onto, even though we know that was not the case during...
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is a pretty mediocre hack and slash with gameplay that never really clicked with me. The combat feels clunky and lacks the satisfying weight you'd expect from this type of game. There are plenty of abilities and upgrades to unlock, but fighting enemies quickly becomes repetitive, and a lot of the encounters start to blend together. The bigger problem is the world itself. The game strips...
This game is absolutely bad ass. Gabriel is a bad ass. The voice acting is bad ass. The musical score is bad ass. The Narration by Sir Patrick Stewart is bad ass. The level design is bad ass. The action is bad ass. The enemies and bosses are bad ass. PLAY THIS GAME!

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Ultimate Edition scores 52/100 on the BANG Score (fair value). The BANG Score rates what a game is worth for the money. Via Steam BANGERS. https://steambangers.com/game/234080/castlevania-lords-of-shadow-ultimate-editionThe BANG Score is one number for value, 0 to 100: price against how it reviews and how long it was built to be. It answers the money question and stops there; whether the game is for you is still your call.
Reviews set the ceiling and price moves you inside it, so a cheap game that reviews badly cannot climb. Ratings from few reviewers are shrunk toward the middle, so 100 percent from nine people does not outrank 96 percent from ninety thousand. Length comes from HowLongToBeat where it can be matched, measured against a per-genre floor so a five-hour narrative game is judged against other narrative games rather than against a sixty-hour RPG. Where no verified length exists the score says so and carries a dock, because the biggest input is then a guess. The full method, including where it is weak → Steam reviews as of Sep 16, price as of Sep 24.
