The value story
The lowest price on record is $7.49, set in December 2025. Its cuts run 40 percent off as a rule. There have been 14 in the 2 years tracked, about 6 weeks apart. Today it is at full price, and its last discount ended 4 days ago.
On value it sits in the top 35 percent of its genre. It is better reviewed than 66 percent of its genre. Among the games that feel like it, Thronefall ($7.79, scores 90) beats it on value, while it beats Kingdom Eighties ($11.99, scores 37).
This site sampled 524 of its Steam-purchase reviews; 6 were written by buyers who refunded it, sampled from reviews written February 2025 to August 2026. Inside the two-hour refund window, 75 percent of the 158 reviews written there were positive, against 87 percent overall, and those are 10 percent of everything written about it.

What players say
While it was diverting, it wasn't worth the price tag. A bit low-effort in many ways, and lacking in attention to detail. Lots of typos and poor QoL. I'd buy it at $5, but not at the asking price of $15.
game itself is fun and I enjoy it - and that's why the save/load feature not working is an issue, and the developer not responding to email/forum is a problem.
Border Pioneer hits that rare sweet spot: it lets you puzzle out a game without making you sweat. It is incredibly easy to pick up, thanks to the tutorial, AI, and well-planned game loop but has enough depth to keep you encouraged to master it. The balance and RNG feel reasonably fair, which I only see in the best of games. It is satisfying for quick, short runs or a longer session. Game has an accessible map editor...
