Ronin is a hybrid real time/turn based action puzzle. Controls are real time until a jump or event happens. Jumps enter a turn based system where one can pre-plan the drop location or perhaps a swing point if you use the grappler while mid-jump. The game is straightforward, but still very good in its focused design. Also, I'm a fan of Vanripper's art for the game. I also enjoyed how much harder the game later. It does challenge you and keep putting you into unexpected situations, even with a small roster of enemy types. RONIN is a revenge story, similar to Kill Bill in some ways (mostly the biker outfit). It is light on story, with just some monologues on...
I like the concept and the aesthetics, but oh my god is this an unfairly frustrating game. The difficulty doesn't come from tactical complexity or puzzle-solving: it stems from how inconsistent the game is. Despite being ostensibly turn-based, sometimes it randomly turns real-time (seemingly because you momentarily went out of the enemies' field of vision).
