September 2024 is where it bottomed out, at $0.89. 112 discounts in the 10 years on record. They run about 90 percent off, roughly 4 weeks apart.
Against its own genre it lands in the top 15 percent on value. It is pricier than 86 percent of its genre, and better reviewed than 85 percent. Among the games that feel like it, MO:Astray ($14.99, scores 69) beats it on value, while it beats One Gun Guy ($4.99, scores 16).
Critics scored it 67. Players sit 16 points higher at 83 percent, which usually means a game that plays better than it reviews.
Of the 383 Steam-purchase reviews this site sampled, none come from buyers who refunded the game, sampled from reviews written April 2020 to July 2026. A hidden gem. This is a cinematique 2d platformer, a genre which was more popular in the 90s with games like Prince of Persia, Another World, Flashback and Heart of Darkness. In The Way, you play as Major Tom, yes, that's his name. Just in the first scene you get your recently deceased wife out of her tomb and carry her to your home. From the outset, it establishes itself as a thoughtful, atmospheric experience rather than a fast-paced action game, placing emphasis on careful movement...
The game is clearly inspired by the older cinematic platformers (Prince of Persia, Another World, Flashback) but becomes an exercise in frustration due to issues around checkpoints and character controls. The story is passable, and treads some basic sci-fi tropes. The main character's actions do not make them particularly likeable, but there's enough to see the game to its end. Probably the worst aspect of the game...
