What drives the score

How to read this

Every input gets a grade, S to D, read from the buyer's side. The score is multiplicative, so an input only counts as raising when it sits near the top of its own scale. Anything with real room left is holding the score back, because that room is the gap to 100. ▲ marks a lift, ▼ a drag or a dock, ? an input we do not have, • a fact this genre's score does not use. The exact weights stay secret.

The value story

The lowest price on record is $1.99, set in December 2025. Its cuts run 80 percent off as a rule. There have been 92 in the 10 years tracked, about 5 weeks apart. Today it is at full price. The last sale was about 3 weeks ago, and on this game's rhythm the next one tends to arrive within 5 weeks.

It is pricier than 74 percent of its genre, and less well reviewed than 66 percent. On the same math Dead Island Definitive Edition ($19.99, scores 57) and Arizona Sunshine® VR Legacy ($14.99, scores 38) are the better buys, and they are the games it most resembles.

Of the 800 Steam-purchase reviews this site sampled, 5 come from buyers who refunded the game, sampled from reviews written July 2023 to September 2026. Inside the two-hour refund window, 53 percent of the 840 reviews written there were positive, against 71 percent overall, and those are 14 percent of everything written about it.

9.8 hours to finish it, 27 to exhaust it. The completionist tail is 2.8 times the campaign.

At 9.8 hours it is a handheld-sized game, and Valve rates it Deck Verified.

What players say

I would not recommend Dead Island: Riptide. Even though I completed the game to 100%, cause i hate myself, it was an absolute slog to get through, even with a co-op mate. At one point, we literally just watched a movie and played the game on mute just to grind out the achievements. If you want to play a Dead Island game, stick to the first one or even play Dead Island 2. Otherwise, just play Dying Light or Dying...

Put simply, it's everything you loved about Dead Island, but done much worse. Clunky. You will die a lot because of glitchy mechanics, and it will just piss you off. Too many rage inducing flaws.

Dead Island Riptide Definitive Edition is a great continuation of the Dead Island experience. If you enjoyed the first game, Riptide gives you more zombies, more weapons, more exploration, and plenty of chaotic moments. In addition, the combat is still incredibly satisfying, especially when you find a powerful weapon and start taking down groups of zombies. I also really relished exploring the island, completing...

The BANG Score is one number for value, 0 to 100: price against how it reviews and how long it was built to be. It answers the money question and stops there; whether the game is for you is still your call.

Reviews set the ceiling and price moves you inside it, so a cheap game that reviews badly cannot climb. Ratings from few reviewers are shrunk toward the middle, so 100 percent from nine people does not outrank 96 percent from ninety thousand. Length comes from HowLongToBeat where it can be matched, measured against a per-genre floor so a five-hour narrative game is judged against other narrative games rather than against a sixty-hour RPG. Where no verified length exists the score says so and carries a dock, because the biggest input is then a guess. The full method, including where it is weak → Steam reviews as of Sep 13, price as of Sep 24.
