The value story
It has never been cheaper than $4.49. That was June 2018. 95 discounts in the 11 years on record. They run about 85 percent off, roughly 6 weeks apart.
Value puts it in the top 3 percent of the games it competes with. It is pricier than 98 percent of its genre, and better reviewed than 96 percent. Among the games that feel like it, Lethal League ($13.99, scores 75) beats it on value, while it beats Mortal Kombat 11 ($49.99, scores 40).
Steam's global achievement data puts about 2 percent of players at this game's ending achievement. On a 15.4-hour game, the hours short of it still count in its price per hour. Of the 354 Steam-purchase reviews this site sampled, 2 come from buyers who refunded the game, sampled from reviews written March 2020 to September 2026. Inside the two-hour refund window, 75 percent of the 399 reviews written there were positive, against 91 percent overall, and those are 17 percent of everything written about it.
The main story runs 15.4 hours. Doing everything runs 42, 2.7 times as long.
Valve rates it Steam Deck Verified, so it runs on the handheld without fiddling.

What players say
This is where the story truly expands on the world building and character development. While before it felt more all over the place, which many overlapping stories (since each character had their own routes), but now it is more linear and easy to follow. It is larger in scale, but sometimes it can be a bit slow compared to the previous ones. I do miss Kagutsuchi and all it's charming areas and places though. But...
One of the most content-packed anime fighters out there. The roster is huge, every character feels wildly unique, and the combat rewards both flashy offense and deep technical play. Story mode is absurdly long, though you'll need some patience to keep up with all the lore. Still a fantastic pickup if you want a fighter with tons of depth and personality.
I enjoyed the second game more but this is still solid. Although unlike 2, where at the very least 30% of the gags landed, here none of them land just like in 1. At least lichi sensei is still great.
