Before talking about the game itself I have to point out that, for reasons I can't begin to guess, you're required to use a separate launcher and have a SE account. For a Playstation game. From 1999. That problem speaks for itself, as does the fact that I had to basically invoke dark spirits through a complex forbidden ritual just to make it recognize my controller. I think I had to download a custom controller...

This version is way better than the 2019 remaster. Just grab FFNX and the PS1 music mod for it, both are easy to install. FF8 is a good game. I play/replay it because it's comfy and the music is fantastic. You don't have to grind levels, just draw magic - which you can bypass with a card game. The story is cheesy: you have to remember that it's basically supposed to be a high school drama, and that the moments...
Last played in 2019 and I didn't write a review back then. Why would I write one in 2026? Because muffin button, I don't know. I was in the middle of this when the HD remaster was launched. I looked at the trailer for it and went right back to playing this version with the mods I already had installed. I'm not sure how stable the remaster is and what mods are available for that one, but the stability is alright...
