What drives the score

How to read this

Every input gets a grade, S to D, read from the buyer's side. The score is multiplicative, so an input only counts as raising when it sits near the top of its own scale. Anything with real room left is holding the score back, because that room is the gap to 100. ▲ marks a lift, ▼ a drag or a dock, ? an input we do not have, • a fact this genre's score does not use. The exact weights stay secret.

The value story

March 2024 is where it bottomed out, at $4.49. Its cuts run 75 percent off as a rule. There have been 59 in the 8 years tracked, about 7 weeks apart. Today it is at full price. The last sale was about 6 weeks ago, and on this game's rhythm the next one tends to arrive within 7 weeks.

Against its own genre it lands in the top 1 percent on value. It is pricier than 97 percent of its genre, and better reviewed than 97 percent. Among the games that feel like it, Two Point Museum ($29.99, scores 90) beats it on value, while it beats Two Point Campus ($29.99, scores 69).

On this data it would still be a BANGER at $31.80. It costs $29.99.

Critics scored it 83. Players sit 9 points higher at 92 percent, which usually means a game that plays better than it reviews.

7 of the 799 Steam-purchase reviews sampled here come from buyers who refunded the game, sampled from reviews written December 2021 to September 2026. That is fewer refunded reviewers than 8 in 10 paid games this site has sampled to the same depth, and among the 2,864 games in its genre sampled this deeply, 2,406 have a larger share. Inside the two-hour refund window, 72 percent of the 1,380 reviews written there were positive, against 92 percent overall, and those are 5 percent of everything written about it.

The main story runs 38.2 hours. Doing everything runs 128, 3.3 times as long.

It came out 8 years ago and 518 were still playing it at the last check.

What players say

This is one of those games that really pulls you in and makes it easy to lose track of time. The gameplay is simple to pick up but has enough depth to keep things interesting as your hospital grows. Everything runs really smoothly and I haven't had any stability issues so far. It's genuinely fun watching your hospital develop while trying to keep everything running efficiently. The game can also give you a bit of a...

I tire of DLC heavy games. These guys have a habit of releasing a skeleton of a good game, then spending the next several years spamming out DLC to the extent I'll not reinstall the base game because I'm apparently missing *checks the dlc list* 11 items so therefore I can't enjoy the full game without forking out another 20+ quid. These are average games at best, aped off rollercoaster tycoon, theme hospital and the...

The BANG Score is one number for value, 0 to 100: price against how it reviews and how long it was built to be. It answers the money question and stops there; whether the game is for you is still your call.

Reviews set the ceiling and price moves you inside it, so a cheap game that reviews badly cannot climb. Ratings from few reviewers are shrunk toward the middle, so 100 percent from nine people does not outrank 96 percent from ninety thousand. Length comes from HowLongToBeat where it can be matched, measured against a per-genre floor so a five-hour narrative game is judged against other narrative games rather than against a sixty-hour RPG. Where no verified length exists the score says so and carries a dock, because the biggest input is then a guess. The full method, including where it is weak → Steam reviews as of Sep 14, price as of Sep 24.
