I've played this game off and on since release (~8 years at this point). I love these five idiots. The gameplay is tight, the classes are fun, and the writing is top notch. Darktide is a pale imitation of the OG, unfortunately. This is always the one I end up coming back to.
At first Vermintide 2 felt like another horde shooter. Coming back years later, I understood what sets it apart: melee is the heart of the game, and it is exceptional. Every swing, block and parry is anchored to a character holding a real weapon, with weight you can feel. Each weapon has its own moveset and rhythm, from the upward cleave of a greatsword to the precise thrust of Kerillian's spear. There's no sprint...
