The value story
The lowest price on record is $5.39, set in June 2026. Its cuts run 50 percent off as a rule. There have been 51 in the 7 years tracked, about 6 weeks apart.
On value it sits in the top 49 percent of its genre. It is pricier than 93 percent of its genre, and less well reviewed than 65 percent. On the same math Shadow Empire ($15.99, scores 38) and Battle Brothers ($29.99, scores 71) are the better buys, and they are the games it most resembles.
Of the 490 Steam-purchase reviews this site sampled, 6 come from buyers who refunded the game, sampled from reviews written April 2020 to September 2026. Inside the two-hour refund window, 34 percent of the 163 reviews written there were positive, against 71 percent overall, and those are 17 percent of everything written about it.

Got it for a good enough price on sale to finally try it out ($27 base is insanity), and see how they "went wrong". At times, the game is surely dull and unsatisfying. A handful of ideas thrown around, with minimal depth injected into them. Yet, there still exists such a magic in their game design that can be found...

It plays a lot like a gladiator training game except it's religious 'fighters'. Not Abbey's finest work, but I had a lot of fun with it. It's still got some rough edges and a single playthrough is too long (I feel like it should be three...
It's an interesting offramp from Reus (excellent) towards a game something like Cultist Simulator. There are three main reasons to avoid this game unless you the defects interest you: 1) it becomes excel work, 2) XCOM RNG can be tough 3) too much lore to learn. I recommend playing Reus which is similar and superior. There really are too many stats in this game for the UI to sort meaningfully. This is not about...
