The value story

The lowest price on record is $9.99, set in January 2026. It has been discounted 26 times in the 3 years tracked here, typically at 35 percent off, with about 6 weeks between sales.

It is pricier than 91 percent of its genre. Roboquest ($24.99, scores 87) outscores it, and so does Tower of Guns ($14.99, scores 53). Both sit among its closest neighbours.

Of the 488 Steam-purchase reviews this site sampled, 10 come from buyers who refunded the game, sampled from reviews written October 2023 to September 2026. Inside the two-hour refund window, 64 percent of the 203 reviews written there were positive, against 82 percent overall, and those are 21 percent of everything written about it.

HowLongToBeat players log 5.8 hours as a typical playtime, and completionists log 40, 6.9 times as much.

Valve rates it Steam Deck Verified, and at 5.8 hours it is short enough to finish on one.

What players say

I'm mainly writing this review because the negative reviews have a ton of misinformation for some reason. I have to assume the authors didn't engage with the upgrade system or the difficulty system back at the base. - "Guns have one mod slot" No, you get upgrades that allow you to have up to five interchangeable plus the mod inherent to each gun. - "Bosses don't change between runs" Boss behaviors change depending...

Absolutely love this one. The gameplay is tight, and there's just enough jank in the randomization mix for you to have some pretty busted runs. Sure, the last few runs you do will feel hard as nails, but the gameplay is fair enough that even if you don't have insane RNG, you can still beat it. Heck I almost got to the end on my first run since I was so locked in. Seriously, great game, one of my top 5 rougelites.

Battle Shapers is an excellent shooter trapped inside a roguelite that completely disrespects your time. The shooting, dashing, jumping, and double-jumping feel every bit as polished as Roboquest. The artwork is excellent and the enemy variety is solid. That combat is the only reason I tolerated everything surrounding it long enough to beat the game. There are four biomes, most split into two sections. Even skipping...
