About the game
Flee your fear and carve your story. Blaze a trail across mythic American highways, where choices twist your tale and danger’s always in the rearview mirror. With roguelike routes, limited resources, and breakneck chases, this isn’t just a drive—it’s your legend in the making.
Minimum specs
Minimum on the Steam store: 8 GB of memory, GeForce GTX 1060 or Radeon RX 560, 30 GB of storage. Windows only.
The value story
It has been discounted 24 times in the 2 years tracked here. The median cut across all of them is 50 percent, about 6 weeks apart. Today it is at full price, and its last discount ended 11 days ago.
It is pricier than 80 percent of its genre, and less well reviewed than 66 percent. Shotgun King: The Final Checkmate ($9.99, scores 75) outscores it, and so does Cultist Simulator ($19.99, scores 54). Both sit among its closest neighbours.
More about Heading Out
This site sampled 462 of its Steam-purchase reviews; 11 were written by buyers who refunded it, sampled from reviews written May 2024 to August 2026. That is more refunded reviewers than 8 in 10 paid games this site has sampled to the same depth, and among the 1,174 games in its genre sampled this deeply, 77 have a larger share. Inside the two-hour refund window, 52 percent of the 187 reviews written there were positive, against 76 percent overall, and those are 29 percent of everything written about it.
At 5.6 hours it is a handheld-sized game, and Valve rates it Deck Verified.

What players say
the game needs more in it's main gameplay loop or to end by act 3. act 4 I was sick of driving and that was the main gameplay loop. I never struggled for resources on balanced. I didn't find any bugs or issues with controlling it. Other than if you go a little too far off road it dulls the background audio as if someone was speaking but they never do. The music is good but as the gameplay is based on music it needs...

Repetitive gameplay, Basically no roguelike elements, A cringey story, and radio segments that try to relate to you but fails misearbly makes this game just not fun to play.
Heading out is one of those two steps forward, one step back games. Its probably the only good attempt at a roguelite racing game ive ever played, its main story is an enjoyable, and its side content is interesting, funny, and thought provoking and the gameplay makes you wonder how series like Need for speed or Forza horizon are the gold standard for racing games. Which is why the story pisses me off so much...
