More about Tower of Kalemonvo
Steam's global achievement data puts about 9 percent of players at this game's ending achievement. On an 8.8-hour game, the hours short of it still count in its price per hour. What players say
Game feels like diablo 1 with some interesting quality of life changes. Last time I played it felt a bit off balance, but things feel good now. Quite hard but just enough lvls, pots and pools to heal you up after tough miniboss fights. I like that I don't have to worry about currency, and it seems as though you really don't need to worry about carrying items that don't help your build for any reason. Have never...

I was very take it or leave it with this experience, despite being the target audience. I've never really considered Diablo 1 to have been surpassed, just done differently. Most games in the genre emulate Diablo 2 or later, which is great, but I have felt pretty starved for good D1 clones, so to encounter Tower of Kalemonvo was a pleasant surprise. Unfortunately it doesn't come close to rivalling the quality of D1...
I like the idea, but it's not for me. Being able to turn trash loot into money is a big part of the appeal of D1, and makes it feel like your survival is dependent on scavenging a dungeon. Without that dynamic it feels much more like your survival is dependent on how many potions the RNG gave you. This is probably quite appealing to people who did ironman hardcore runs of D1, but that was never appealing personally.
