The value story
September 2026 is where it bottomed out, at $10.49. It has been discounted 28 times in the 3 years tracked here, typically at 50 percent off, with about 4 weeks between sales. Today it is at full price, and its last discount ended 12 days ago.
Against its own genre it lands in the top 33 percent on value. It is pricier than 96 percent of its genre, and better reviewed than 64 percent. Among the games that feel like it, Vaporum ($19.99, scores 57) beats it on value, while it beats Age of Reforging: The Freelands ($29.99, scores 23).
Of the 559 Steam-purchase reviews this site sampled, 11 come from buyers who refunded the game, sampled from reviews written September 2023 to August 2026. Inside the two-hour refund window, 48 percent of the 164 reviews written there were positive, against 77 percent overall, and those are 14 percent of everything written about it.

What players say
Great game, but brutally hardcore as far as RPGs go. Death is real. Mistakes are costly. Patience is needed. If that sounds good to you, you probably have already played Wizardry, want a history lesson, or are a glutton for punishment.
Played the Original Wizardry in 1981 on an Apple II+. Play-tested Wizardry 5 in 1987, and met Robert Woodhead (Trebor) and Andrew Greenberg (Werdna). Fun to play again after 45 years.
This remake of a classic 80s game is pure nostalgia. Technically its excellently put together. Problem is that its a 1981 game. I've played all the big dungeon crawlers (love the genre) but this one is just too simple, repetitive and boring for a 2026 title. Also I can buy both Grimrocks for the price of this game so its crazy overpriced. I had fun creating a good party and then steamrolling the first level but...
