What drives the score

How to read this

Every input gets a grade, S to D, read from the buyer's side. The score is multiplicative, so an input only counts as raising when it sits near the top of its own scale. Anything with real room left is holding the score back, because that room is the gap to 100. ▲ marks a lift, ▼ a drag or a dock, ? an input we do not have, • a fact this genre's score does not use. The exact weights stay secret.

The value story

It has never been cheaper than $1.00. That was May 2021. It has been discounted 99 times in the 10 years tracked here, typically at 80 percent off, with about 5 weeks between sales. Today it is at full price. The last sale was about 5 weeks ago, and on this game's rhythm the next one tends to arrive within 5 weeks.

Against its own genre it lands in the top 23 percent on value. It is pricier than 98 percent of its genre, and better reviewed than 79 percent. Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments ($29.99, scores 63) outscores it, and so does L.A. Noire ($19.99, scores 68). Both sit among its closest neighbours.

Critics scored it 65. Players sit 15 points higher at 80 percent, which usually means a game that plays better than it reviews.

Steam's global achievement data puts 23 percent of players at this game's ending achievement. The median game this site can measure sits at 8. This site sampled 800 of its Steam-purchase reviews; 6 were written by buyers who refunded it, sampled from reviews written August 2022 to September 2026. Inside the two-hour refund window, 48 percent of the 1,727 reviews written there were positive, against 80 percent overall, and those are 14 percent of everything written about it.

Valve rates it Steam Deck Verified, and at 10.2 hours it is short enough to finish on one.

What players say

The gameplay and graphics are pretty much the same as the first game, with a few minor changes. But honestly, I preferred the character writing in the first game, especially Sherlock and Doctor Watson. Their personalities and chemistry were much more enjoyable there. Still, not a bad game - just not much of a step forward.

i think i played crime and punishment in 2024 and this one is not really an upgrade to the predecessor. the gameplay and game mechanics still the same. i did guess the plot and who is the devil's daughter correctly, it was so obvious. but the cases still fun. i rate it 6/10. i just didn't like the supernatural stuff that makes u teleport magically and etc. also kate and alice character are so insufferrable.

I played Crime and Punishment. I really liked Crime and Punishment. This is decidedly not like Crime and Punishment, despite retaining the mindmap deduction mechanics. There are still some of the more cerebral elements from Crime and Punishment that I enjoyed (e.g. the deductions, profiling and catching inconsistencies in statements). The profiling portion has been slightly enhanced, requiring you to make smaller...

The BANG Score is one number for value, 0 to 100: price against how it reviews and how long it was built to be. It answers the money question and stops there; whether the game is for you is still your call.

Reviews set the ceiling and price moves you inside it, so a cheap game that reviews badly cannot climb. Ratings from few reviewers are shrunk toward the middle, so 100 percent from nine people does not outrank 96 percent from ninety thousand. Length comes from HowLongToBeat where it can be matched, measured against a per-genre floor so a five-hour narrative game is judged against other narrative games rather than against a sixty-hour RPG. Where no verified length exists the score says so and carries a dock, because the biggest input is then a guess. The full method, including where it is weak → Steam reviews as of Sep 13, price as of Sep 24.
