The value story
June 2024 is where it bottomed out, at $5.99. Its cuts run 75 percent off as a rule. There have been 73 in the 10 years tracked, about 6 weeks apart.
It is pricier than 98 percent of its genre, and less well reviewed than 97 percent. On the same math Strange Brigade ($49.99, scores 39) and Dead Rising 3 Apocalypse Edition ($29.99, scores 41) are the better buys, and they are the games it most resembles.
74 on Metacritic, 57 percent from players. A gap this way round is usually launch damage or a slow decline.
This site sampled 800 of its Steam-purchase reviews; 7 were written by buyers who refunded it, sampled from reviews written July 2023 to August 2026. Inside the two-hour refund window, 31 percent of the 570 reviews written there were positive, against 57 percent overall, and those are 12 percent of everything written about it.
Finishing takes 10 hours; clearing it takes 39, which is 3.9 times the campaign.
Valve rates it Steam Deck Verified, and at 10 hours it is short enough to finish on one.

What players say
Dead Rising 4 is nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be. Is the story weak? Yes. Frank West feels noticeably different, the villains are forgettable, and the boss fights are much less memorable than the psychopaths from the older games. Those are completely fair criticisms. But calling the entire game "terrible" feels ridiculous to me. The actual gameplay is fun. Killing huge crowds of zombies...
Ignore the hater reviews. This game looks better and more optimized from the previous clanky game. Yes, writing is a little bit poor and yes, you don't have a cringy humor like the original ones but what you expect; another walk in the mall? I think two mall sim is enough for the franchise and they did something new in this one. Don't hate this game because what they did to Frank!
how is this game so unoptimized . even on modern hardware . game itself is only ok with capcom dlc outside that id say have top of the line for 4k 120 ate high settings. because honestly this game is but at 1080 and it can bearly hold 120 and always dips even at 80 percent on gpu.
