Chrono Trigger is a timeless game (no pun intended). It's easy to pick up, fun, fast-paced, and I think clever. The art is fantastic, the characters are great, and the gameplay is fun. Plus, they did the pre-final boss phase right, made a great new game plus system for post game, added cut scenes to compliment the original, and included multiple reasons to replay for endings. I played through this game expecting something that's just pretty good. I've heard time and time again how good this game is, after playing it myself it probably one of the best games I ever played. I recommend this to anyone who remotely enjoys RPG's. I liked all the characters and they're stories. The battles were fun and it didn't feel like I was ever underleveled. This game is still a classic in the sense that Shakespeare's MacBeth is a classic - I mean that as a compliment - it's neither Final Fantasy nor Dragon Quest but a standalone crossover of both development teams during the peak of the 16-bit era.
