The value story
It has never been cheaper than $4.99. That was November 2019. Its cuts run 75 percent off as a rule. There have been 60 in the 8 years tracked, about 6 weeks apart.
Against its own genre it lands in the top 16 percent on value. It is pricier than 89 percent of its genre, and better reviewed than 67 percent. Among the games that feel like it, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen ($29.99, scores 76) beats it on value, while it beats Lost Ark (free, scores 23).
Steam's global achievement data puts about 5 percent of players at this game's ending achievement. On a 53-hour game, the hours short of it still count in its price per hour. Of the 593 Steam-purchase reviews this site sampled, 5 come from buyers who refunded the game, sampled from reviews written April 2020 to August 2026. Inside the two-hour refund window, 56 percent of the 428 reviews written there were positive, against 78 percent overall, and those are 23 percent of everything written about it.
53 hours to finish it, 198 to exhaust it. The completionist tail is 3.7 times the campaign.
The drop-off
91% start to 5% finishSteam counts fewer than one in ten of its players at the ending achievement. On a 53-hour game, that's a lot you pay for and may never use. Steam global achievements
What players say
*NECESSARY DISCLAIMER* I highly recommend using a controller to play this and any other SAO game in the series. I played this game for 100+ hours on my PS4 and thoroughly enjoyed my time with it. Playing through it a second time YEARS later it is just as good. I didnt understand the implementation system for my entire PS4 playthrough and thus never unlocked the OSS Chaining. Now that I have it on this playthrough...
I started playing this game because some friends got me into SAO. I love it so far and cant wait to play multiplayer with them.
I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, not even other SAO fans. Don't waste your time.
