I'd heard a lot of talk about this being 'one of the best horror games ever made' and so on, so I was pretty excited going in. I was profoundly disappointed. The optimization sucks, for starters. Things stutter and take ages to load, which is surprising, as the game is actually pretty ugly. Most of the environments are repetitively-textured suburban homes, and the character models and animations are distractingly...
The game works surprisingly well whether you prefer playing alone or with others, but I definitely think it is at its best in co-op, even if you are only playing with one other person. The investigations themselves can be genuinely tense, especially when you are gathering evidence, trying to identify the ghost, and slowly realizing that the situation is becoming more dangerous.
