I was originally struck by Apotheon's art style, which emulates Ancient Greek black-figure pottery painting. It might look like a Metroidvania, but actually plays more akin to a side-scrolling twin stick shooter, with physics simulation. Ranged weapons and thrown projectiles will arc semi-realistically, while hits from heavy weapons and explosions can send your enemies (or you) flying across the screen. Weapon decay...
One of favorites games in the metroidvania space, very unique style, a true homage to the greek tales/myths because it captures the essence and story telling of the ancient legends told by generations. I recommend it to metroidvania lovers, people searching for hidden gems and especially to history nerds like myself ;) . 9/10 almost perfect game. Its a little bit bugged sometimes, but overall a nearly perfect game.
I bought this game for the art, but then the art turned me off. Playing on the side of an ancient grecian jar was fun in theory, but after a few hours the monotone environments and characters exhausted me. The game does it's best to add variety, but there's only so much that can be done. Gameplay is fun enough, but cheesable to the point that it didn't immerse me. S.W.O.T.
