What players say
It's a short and sweet Wizardrylike that looks a lot like oldschool Final Fantasy. It's cute! I love the PC sprites. I think the sequel is probably more worth your time, as it's a significantly more interesting game. But like I said, this game is pretty short so IMO it's worth checking out.

I played Dungeon Antiqua 2 first, as it's an FF5 style game and I'm an avid FF5 randomizer player. I'm also not as fond of Wizardry as the early FF series (even with having and played both on the NES). This was still solid, I can see a lot of things that became what I loved in DA2. Like DA2, you have a limited field of view and gradually make more of the map visible. There are light spells to help you see better...
I played this game after playing the second, and honestly it's hard to recommend. It's is very old-school and harkens back to the Wizardry games of NES yore very strongly. It sends your characters back to level 1 when you change classes. It has basically no story and is all gameplay, but even the gameplay is pretty janky and the boss fights aren't that great. IMO, just play the second.
