There's a lot that you WANT to like abouit Thrones of Britannia. The theme and setting are beautiful, with great historic appeal, packaged in a nice visual and audio style, and in a popular era. It''s just... boring. As a Sagas entry, it is small in scale, yet the map is huge - resulting in an empty, passive campaign. It tries to bring back features from Attila, but it seems to forget any semblance of depth...
Glad I bought on sale, not worth £30. At the time of writing, it's an 8 year old game and a smaller "Saga" one at that, not a full TW game. (This is the future publishers and PlayStation want, btw). As for gameplay, I don't know who thought it would be a fun experience for the AI to just hop from one minor, undefended, garrison-less settlement to another, eternally slightly outside of player army movement range, but...
A Total War game with a pretty good foundation, a likable setting, and some interesting ideas. Unfortunately, a drawn out campaign can get boring and samey pretty quick with pestering mechanics such as constant loyal-checking on your generals and administrators. I will say, I enjoyed the economy and recruitment crawl in this game than I did others, as I'm never a huge fan of getting a ton of income too quickly...
