The value story

June 2023 is where it bottomed out, at $9.89. Its cuts run 67 percent off as a rule. There have been 49 in the 7 years tracked, about 6 weeks apart.

Against its own genre it lands in the top 24 percent on value. It is pricier than 95 percent of its genre, and better reviewed than 63 percent. Among the games that feel like it, Castlevania Anniversary Collection ($3.99, scores 61) beats it on value, while it beats Castle In The Darkness ($9.99, scores 43).

Steam's global achievement data puts 27 percent of players at this game's ending achievement. The median game this site can measure sits at 15. This site sampled 732 of its Steam-purchase reviews; 17 were written by buyers who refunded it, sampled from reviews written March 2020 to August 2026. That is more refunded reviewers than 7 in 10 paid games this site has sampled to the same depth, and among the 3,162 games in its genre sampled this deeply, 667 have a larger share. Inside the two-hour refund window, 42 percent of the 547 reviews written there were positive, against 77 percent overall, and those are 24 percent of everything written about it.

26.7 hours to finish it, 97 to exhaust it. The completionist tail is 3.6 times the campaign.

It carries Valve's Deck Verified rating, which is the one that means it just works.

This is a case in which I'd give a neutral review, if I could. As Steam doesn't allow that, I'll round it up to a positive review. A fine collection of games with several new features. There's an easier difficulty option, a Save-Assist mode that adds checkpoints and does away with the lives system, a huge gallery and sound test, the possibility of playing Japanese versions of the games, new time trial challenges and...

Great collection overall, no input delays and all of them are good ahh games, if only the X Collection got this much care. I do recommend modding the OST past its GBAness, which are cool, but man, they're way better past that limitation, its real easy, there's a guide and everything.
