The value story
It has never been cheaper than $1.19. That was February 2016. It has been discounted 57 times in the 14 years tracked here, typically at 60 percent off, with about 12 weeks between sales.
Value puts it in the top 6 percent of the games it competes with. It is better reviewed than 83 percent of its genre. Among the games closest to it, Riven (1997) ($5.99, scores 60) and Myst ($34.99, scores 44) both come in lower.
Of the 362 Steam-purchase reviews this site sampled, 2 come from buyers who refunded the game, sampled from reviews written March 2020 to August 2026. Inside the two-hour refund window, 66 percent of the 212 reviews written there were positive, against 86 percent overall, and those are 22 percent of everything written about it.
It carries Valve's Deck Verified rating and runs 5.7 hours, about as long as a handheld game wants to be.

What players say
Very much a flawed masterpiece. I played this version of the game for two reasons: Firstly because it was the version that I remember from when I was younger (mostly, there were a couple of 'bugfix' builds around the Macintosh version I played;) and secondly because it's the version that has the most 'liminal' and unsettling atmosphere. This second point is important, because the strange graphics, unusual...
It's a classic, what can I say? Painfully clunky by modern standards, yet probably the best graphics of any game to survive from that time period. Some of the puzzles are hair-tearing, but it's worth it to deal with them; the game takes only a few hours if you know it, but is worth spending days in if you don't.
Enter this game as something to experience, and not as something to "finish," and you'll be playing one of the most atmospheric, immersive games of all time.
